Press Oblivion Sketch Book - Image

What can I say about Image Comics. If the company had been able to maintain some kind of unity it would have had the potential to topple its predecessor. I mean WOW!, all of my favorite comic book illustrators uniting to form a creative power house that could have conquered the industry. But they lacked discipline in the beginning in much the same way that I lack it now to hurl themselves to the top and stay there. Image is now an "indi" and shell of its former self with a few great books spotting shelves here and there. Instead of saying IMAGE COMICS loud and proud we point out our favorite studios, segregated continents that make up the image planet, and hope that their books don't fall off the edge like so many have in its short decade of existence.

I was excited to see Image emerge when it did. I was glad and inspired to see creator owned properties attract so much praise and attention. It was something that I so desperatley wanted to be a part of and despite my ranting above it is still something that I would love to be a part of. There is no other company out there now supporting creator owned properties. This was a goal Image stated it would pursue in the beginning but didn't really find its way until founders were either forced to leave or left of their own volition. Image may not be that same as when it first started but every time I see a new book from an unknown creative team I know that there is still a chance for me to make the big time.
